Le Petit Cochon Featured in Texas Monthly Dining Guide

Excellent French food sans white tablecloths.

The appearance of Le Petit Cochon (the Little Pig) in College Station fills two voids in the area’s dining scene: French cuisine and too few special-occasion restaurants. But the lack of white tablecloths and candles—not to mention the reasonable prices—also makes it great for nothing more than a nice meal out. Appetizers include such French mainstays as raclette, escargots, and steak tartare, while a brief list of entrées ranges from chicken or veal cordon bleu to duck confit. We sampled the filet mignon with béarnaise sauce, as well as a trio of lobster: bisque, claw, and salad. The filet was simple perfection: an expertly seasoned and textured sear encompassing a tender, melt-in-your-mouth center. We worried that the combination of lobster dishes might prove too rich, but the bisque offered an abundance of flavor without relying too heavily on cream, and the flavorful salad was both tasty and lighter than we expected. Definitely rich was our scrumptious dessert of dark chocolate cake.
